Canada Auto Sales Fall to Lowest Since May 1999; Gas Spike, Insurance Costs Blamed

Canada’s car and truck sales plummeted in May after an April surge. May sales dropped 11 percent from the year-ago month, 182,572 to 162,472. Four automakers had double-digit losses: Ford, 17 percent; GM, 12 percent; Honda, 22 percent; and Hyundai, 26 percent. Toronto auto analyst Dennis DesRosiers blames the loss on gas spikes and insurance costs.
