GM Seeks Russian Growth Despite Joint-Venture Blips


Seek­ing new ways to cash in on the surg­ing demand for for­eign cars in Rus­sia, GM is con­sid­er­ing build­ing an auto plant in that coun­try and plans to increase pro­duc­tion of Chevro­lets and Hum­mers from import­ed kits at a west­ern Rus­sia fac­to­ry. Mid­dle class inter­est is shift­ing away from Russ­ian mod­els with for­eign-made sales up 60% in 2005 from the year before.
