Automakers Strengthen Fight to Weaken NHTSA Roof Crush Proposal


Fac­ing almost $100M in annu­al costs for vehi­cle redesign, automak­ers are push­ing to weak­en the government’s 2005 pro­pos­al for tougher roof crush stan­dards. The NHTSA pro­posed increas­ing roof strength stan­dards to 2 1/2 times the vehi­cle weight while the auto indus­try wants more for­giv­ing roof strength test cri­te­ria.
