Promise, Problems of Interlock Systems to Prevent Drunk Driving

Advocates of alcohol ignition interlocks to prevent drunk driving say the devices could save as many as 9000 lives every year. Their opponents say most Americans drink only lightly or not at all and don’t want to deal with obstacles to the normal operation of their vehicles. NHTSA thinks that educating the public about the technology could help overcome some of the resistance.
