GM Wins Global Sales Race Over Toyota; Emerging Markets the Difference

Despite declining market share in the U.S. and the conscious decision to cut sales to car rental companies, General Motors maintained its ranking as the number one automaker in the world. The margin was narrow with a lead of just 3,000 over rival, Toyota. Exploding sales in emerging markets was the difference. Toyota has a huge built-in advantage since GM and other U.S. automakers cannot compete effectively in Japan.
