White House Reviewing NHTSA Rule to Implement 35 MPG Fuel Economy

NHTSA’s rule to meet new pas­sen­ger cars and trucks fleet-wide fuel econ­o­my stan­dard of 35 mpg by 2020 is under White House review cur­rent­ly. The rules must be in place by spring 2009 and take effect in MY2011. They pro­pose to assign stan­dards to vehi­cles based sole­ly on the lit­er­al foot­print (area between vehicle’s 4-wheels).
