New York City Passes Tough Mileage Rules for ‘Black’ Cars

NULL

New York City has about 10,000 “black” cars that service corporate clients. Now the city’s Taxi and Limousine Commission is requiring all new black cars coming into service as January 1, 2009, to have a city mileage rating of at least 25mpg. That requirement goes up to 30mpg a year later. The commission already imposed standards so tough on yellow taxis that the entire fleet could be hybrid by 2012.
