Li-ion Battery Research Improving Safety

Lithium-ion batteries contain 6-times more energy than lead-acid batteries and 2–3 times more than nickel-metal hydride batteries, making them excellent candidates for the low-weight needs of plug-in hybrid and all electric vehicles. Safety concerns center around electrolytes and gases in li-ion batteries that are flammable when released but research is steadily improving safety.
