Toyota Losses Can’t Sustain Unproductive US Work Force Forever


Toy­ota closed its Texas pick­up plant and kept work­ers on the pay­roll for 15 weeks. The automak­er sus­pend­ed Mis­sis­sip­pi Prius plant con­struc­tion but kept those work­ers on the pay­roll as well. Mount­ing loss­es are expect­ed to force the first North Amer­i­can pay­roll cuts in 2009 if there is no mar­ket improve­ment.
