Obama’s NHTSA Implements First CAFE Standard Increase: 8% for MY2011

The gov­ern­ment has raised the fuel stan­dards for all light vehi­cles by 8%, to an aver­age of 27.3 mpg effec­tive with the 2011 mod­el year. NADA Chair­man John McE­leney empha­sizes the need for a sin­gle nation­al fuel econ­o­my stan­dard to assure reg­u­la­to­ry cer­tain­ty, crit­i­ciz­ing California’s “patch­work” pro­gram.
