Congressional Democrats Pushing Bills to Improve Auto Safety

Wall Street Journal - May 25, 2010

House and Senate committees are pushing through legislation to improve vehicle safety in response to the problems arising as part of Toyota’s recent recalls for unintended acceleration. Event data recorders, brake systems that override throttles and other technology will be mandated. NHTSA will be given authority to more quickly require recalls and levy higher fines for automakers that don’t report problems.
