European Economy Affects U.S. Automakers

European Sales Slump

- March 6, 2012

As European auto sales appear to slump even deeper, the effect for the bottom line of world automakers including Ford, GM and Toyota is clearly apparent. Ford is predicting a $600 million loss this year and GM has already lost $747 million in 2011. Many automakers are cutting production schedules there in order to avoid overcapacity, and the GM-Peugeot alliance may well mean job reductions.
