Some EVs Are Really ‘Compliance’ Cars

If you live in Cal­i­for­nia, you may be famil­iar with the term “com­pli­ance cars,” those that are made in very low vol­umes and only built to meet Cal­i­for­nia reg­u­la­tions that require a small por­tion of their prod­ucts come from zero-emis­sion vehi­cles. Automak­ers won’t tell you if the car is labeled ‘com­pli­ance,’ and there are only 4 elec­tric vehi­cles on sale in 2012 that are con­sid­ered “real.”
