Telematics Connectivity is Great, but Watch for Raised Hackles

Google has tak­en on pro­vid­ing charg­ing sta­tion data, along with sim­i­lar infor­ma­tion pro­vid­ed by a few oth­er major tech­nol­o­gy sup­pli­ers. Google has access to breath­tak­ing telem­at­ics and con­nec­tiv­i­ty data from glob­al satel­lites, which it uses for dri­ving direc­tions and real-time traf­fic reports, along with charg­ing sta­tion infor­ma­tion. Deal­ers and fleet man­agers are hear­ing con­cerns expressed about Big Broth­er tak­ing away pri­va­cy rights and hack­ing into con­fi­den­tial data. The chal­lenge for OEMs and deal­ers will be effec­tive­ly edu­cat­ing and mar­ket­ing these new tech­nolo­gies while respect­ing free­dom and pri­va­cy.
