Honda Motor Co. CEO Takanobu Ito explained where the company will be going in the next five years, with hybrid electric vehicles playing a major role, during a keynote presentation. Three hybrid systems will be introduced, he said.
1. Lightweight and compact one-motor hybrid system that could take the lead in fuel economy among all hybrid vehicles
2. A two-motor hybrid system for mid-size vehicles. The 2014 Honda Accord plug-in features Honda’s first two-motor system with a new Earth Dreams i-VTEC 2.0 liter, four cylinder engine. This car is powered by a 137 hp gasoline engine teamed with a 124 kW electric motor, and will beat out major plug-in hybrid electric vehicle competitors.
3. The three-motor hybrid system, the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super Handing All Wheel Drive) will focus on driving performance. The highly efficient, high-output system will go into the new NSX, Acura RLX Sport Hybrid model, and the successor model of the Legend.
