Motor Age announced the winner of its annual Top Shops contest – this one for being a quality automotive service operation adapting well to the changing marketplace. Certified Automotive Specialists, owned by Gene and Robin Morrill and based in Glendale, Calif., was honored at the ASRW Industry Awards. Since purchasing the shop in 1985, Gene Morrill has taken countless classes and earned professional certification and degrees to teach courses at the college level. The company for decades has been affiliated with AAA (a four-time quality award winner), ASE (Blue Seal Shop), ASCC, ASA, AMI, and BBB.
One of the key management decisions made by the Gene and Robin Morrill has been bringing on the right staff who understand how to reach today’s customers, according to Tschanen Brandyberry, Motor Age Managing Editor. They’ve adjusted well to both changing vehicle technologies and changing management techniques to be a success for nearly 30 years, Bradyberry said.
There were nine other auto service and repair shops named to the top ten for 2012: Bill’s Quality Auto Care; Carfix; Franklin Automotive; Garry’s Automotive Inc.; Haglin Automotive; Pellman’s Automotive Service Inc.; Rad Air Complete Car Care; Rick’s Automotive Inc.; and Virginia Auto Service.
