Introduction of Ford’s plug-in electric hybrid, the C-Max Energi, . U.S. dealers sold 7,600 electric cars in November, bringing sales totals to 47,500 for 2012 through Nov. 30. It’s expected that 56,000 battery electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles will be sold this year. It’s still a very small part of total US new vehicle sales, but it’s larger than 2011’s electric vehicle sales mark of about 35,000 units sold.
Nissan saw sales of its Leaf jump during the month after the automaker offered $199 leases and price discounts, with the introduction of new models helping boost sales. Ford sold 1,259 of its C-Max Energi just a month after it was introduced. It followed close behind the Chevrolet Volt, which had 1,519 sales for the month, behind the Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid reaching 1,766. Tesla Motors is estimated to have sold 1,150 of its Model S sports sedans in November.
