Electric Cars Had 4th Consecutive Month of Record Sales Growth


Intro­duc­tion of Ford’s plug-in elec­tric hybrid, the C-Max Ener­gi, . U.S. deal­ers sold 7,600 elec­tric cars in Novem­ber, bring­ing sales totals to 47,500 for 2012 through Nov. 30. It’s expect­ed that 56,000 bat­tery elec­tric and plug-in hybrid elec­tric vehi­cles will be sold this year. It’s still a very small part of total US new vehi­cle sales, but it’s larg­er than 2011’s elec­tric vehi­cle sales mark of about 35,000 units sold.

Nis­san saw sales of its Leaf jump dur­ing the month after the automak­er offered $199 leas­es and price dis­counts, with the intro­duc­tion of new mod­els help­ing boost sales. Ford sold 1,259 of its C-Max Ener­gi just a month after it was intro­duced. It fol­lowed close behind the Chevro­let Volt, which had 1,519 sales for the month, behind the Toy­ota Prius Plug-in Hybrid reach­ing 1,766. Tes­la Motors is esti­mat­ed to have sold 1,150 of its Mod­el S sports sedans in Novem­ber.
