NHSTA Says No Deadline to Finalize Car Back-up Cameras

NHTSA’s David Strick­land says he has no time to write leg­is­la­tion final­iz­ing delayed rear-vis­i­bil­i­ty rules which would require automak­ers to install back-up cam­eras in all new vehi­cles. Con­gress approved leg­is­la­tion in 2007 requir­ing the gov­ern­ment to set rear-vis­i­bil­i­ty rules by ear­ly 2011, but for­mer DOT Sec­re­tary Ray LaHood repeat­ed­ly exer­cised his pow­er to delay the rule.
