January Prices Down Slightly Compared to Past Five Years

Jan­u­ary whole­sale used vehi­cle prices were near­ly flat, down just 0.1% from Decem­ber. It was slight­ly worse than the 0.3% rise aver­aged for the month dur­ing the pre­vi­ous five years. NADA Used Car Guide’s price index dipped 0.3% month-over-month to 122.2. In Jan­u­ary 2015, the index came in at 125.5, 2.6% above Jan­u­ary 2016.

Lux­u­ry Vehi­cles Had Largest Depre­ci­a­tion by Drop­ping 3.2%:
Sub­com­pact cars had largest main­stream vehi­cle decline, falling by 0.8%.

Auc­tion Vol­ume of Vehi­cles Up to 8 Years Old Grew by 38% in Jan­u­ary:
While up siz­ably from Decem­ber, vol­ume was 4% low­er than same peri­od last year.

Used Vehi­cle Prices Expect­ed to Go Up 1% in Feb­ru­ary and 2% to 2.5% in March:
Main­stream seg­ments should go up 1% to 1.5% in Feb­ru­ary, while lux­u­ry should be flat.
