India-Based Tata Motors Acquires Prominent European Brands

Tata Motors Ltd. made a $2.3 billion deal with Ford Motor Co. to acquire European nameplates Jaguar and Land Rover. The Indian automaker also acquired rights to the Rover name that had been owned by Chinese manufacturers, the old Lanchester brand, and shares the name Daimler with German automaker Daimler AG. Tata has stressed it will respect the identities of Jaguar and Land Rover, two of Britain’s stateliest marques, and keep them separate from Tata’s vehicle operations.
